How the sizing works
Fire water storage is the flow each system needs multiplied by how long it must run. Your fire engineer or hydraulic consultant sets these from the standards that apply, such as AS 2419.1 for fire hydrant installations and AS 2118.1 for automatic sprinklers. The calculator does not apply those standards itself.
Where hydrants and sprinklers draw at the same time, both demands are stored. Add any volume the pumps cannot draw below the suction outlet, and deduct inflow only if your engineer and the fire authority accept it.
Mullaly fibreglass fire water tanks range from 5,000L to 150,000L, up to 3.28m in diameter. Larger reserves use several connected tanks.
